First post

Hi everyone. I have been thinking for many days to start a blog to share my views on some general (???) topics. And finally here I am. Actually I am not qualified enough to write about political/social affairs, because my knowledge value regarding these falls somewhere near “minus infinity”. Still I have decided to write something with whatever the nano amounts of knowledge I have. Please bear with me If I misquote any facts, as I have already mentioned the magnitude of my 'general knowledge' quotient.

Coming to the actual topic, recent happening that has caught the special interest of mine and many others is, two different festivals like eid and vinayaka chaturthi coming together on the same day. Eid is one of the most important festivals for the people who follow Islam. And, Vinayaka chaviti is an important festival for those who believe in Hinduism. Well everybody knows this, but the interesting part lied in the exactly opposite opinions/traditions followed by different people on the same day. For example those who celebrate vinayaka chavithi prohibit non-veg on that day. And those who follow eid celebrate the festival with haleem. One tradition encourages you to eat one thing as a token of celebration and the other tradition prohibits you from doing exactly the same.

Similarly, Hinduism says that it is not an auspicious day to watch the moon as the person who watches it may have to face unnecessary insults. In exact contrary to it, arrival of the Eid itself is decided by watching the full moon and sight of the moon is regarded auspicious. Moon is one and the same for all and do not change depending on the tradition followed by the person watching it. So where is the difference? The difference is not in the moon that is being observed but is in the opinion of the person who observes it. Means fact is the same, but is being perceived differently by different people due to the diverse explanations given by their religions for the same fact. I am not into discussing who is right and who is wrong. But, what am I trying to say is, a religion is nothing but a combination of these opinions/philosophies defined to understand or explain the facts of the nature and physical realities of the universe. And traditions are nothing but the guidelines for the man to lead a successful and happy life.

But unfortunately, for most of the people (including many of us) religion has become a source of blind believes and discriminations but not of knowledge and ethics.

When everyone realizes these facts and stop discriminating each other, barriers between many people will get abolished and some of the disputes which have been making the lives of many innocent people horrible would come to an end and the world would become a much better and much safer place.

I hope such a day will come!!!!
